4th of July Schedule
Happy 4th of July! There will be a Mysore-style class at YogaWorks as usual, but please note the time: 7.00am to 9.00am on Tuesday, July 4th.
The next moon day falls on Saturday, July 8th. The first full moon (purnima) of July marks the occasion of Sri K Pattabhi Jois’ birthday. Incidentally, it is also the day Hindus and Buddhists celebrate the Guru. This sacred day marks the first transmission of Yoga from Shiva (the Adi Yogi) to his first disciples (saptarishis). The Guru principle is said to be 1,000 times more powerful on Guru Purnima. In India, it is recognized that the greatest blessing in life is to meet your Guru because without him you will never attain moksha.
I believe in the Ashtanga tradition the best form of worship of our Guru (and of Paramaguru R. Sharath Jois) is to adhere to paramparā and treat this method with great reverence. Practice as if Guruji were watching and don’t do things that would displease him.
During the month of August, Noah Williams has asked me to cover his classes (Monday to Friday) for him. http://www.ashtangayoganilayam.net It is a great honor to hold space for such an esteemed teacher and for me to do my dharma as a student by serving my teacher this way.
Nicole Paterson will be subbing at YogaWorks South Bay for me in August.
I will continue to teach at LYFE Yoga in Hermosa Beach every Sunday and will catch up with you all each week there http://www.lyfeyoga.com
“Ashtanga Yoga South Bay” embroidered cotton yoga rugs (in a variety of colors) are on their way to me from Mysore. They should arrive by the end of next week.
